Early Life
Coco Chanel was born on August 19th 1883 by the name Gabrielle Chanel. It is unsure how she actually got the nickname 'Coco" but she claimed she got it from her father others claim she got it from a nickname in show business. She had a very hard life growing up; she grew up in an church orphanage and never saw her dad. The orphanage where she grew up strongly influenced her creations later on, some people believe that the C's on the Cathedral windows were her inspiration for her logo. Coco Chanel was strongly influenced by boys, but two in particular: Etienne Balsan and Arthur Capel. The boys played a large role in her life because they caused her a great deal of stress. Through her struggles she gained a sense of confidence and empowerment. Women must tell men always that they are the strong ones. They are the big, the strong, the wonderful. In truth, women are the strong ones. It is just my opinion, I am not a professor."

This is a picture of Chanel when she was young. Because of her rough childhood, there are not many photos of her as a child.

Here is a picture of the orphanage that Coco Chanel was sent to when she was just a little girl. This image is a current day picture because there are not many pictures of the orphanage when Coco was actually staying there.
